Game 153 // Third Inning // The Didi Grand Slam

Yankee Stadium. ALDS Game 2.

Seven runs in the third. The series all but over.

They won the first game 10-4, and they’re about to blow Game 2 wide open.

It goes: single, walk, single—and they’ve got the bases loaded, no outs.

Then a sac fly lineout from Stanton. 2-0 Yankees.

And an RBI single from Gleyber Torres. 3-0.

Then a hit by pitch. And the bases loaded again, for Didi Gregorius…

In a slump, and then out of a slump—in the grandest way possible.

Booming the ball deep down the line to right. Hooking toward the pole, just staying fair.

Yankees lead, 7-0.

And so Captain Obvious runs out on stage, in the middle of the field. With a sudden announcement, for all who are watching:

The Twins never stood a chance.
